Collect order requirements before confirming a sale
A custom order enquiry helps a seller understand what a customer wants before checking the price, capacity and delivery date. Supplier onboarding serves a different purpose: recording the information needed to assess a new supplier. Neither form replaces your checkout, inventory records or supplier review.

How to make a custom order form useful
List only the sizes, options and fulfilment methods your business can offer. Label the date as requested rather than guaranteed. State whether the submission is an enquiry and how the customer receives a confirmed quote.
For a cake enquiry, ask for servings and design preferences before pricing the order. Make inspiration images optional and explain that staff must confirm whether dietary requirements can be accommodated. Do not promise allergen safety based on a submitted form.
Use a checkout system when the customer needs a fixed price, payment and immediate order confirmation. Use an enquiry form when each order needs a human review. Test the confirmation message so the customer knows which process they are entering.
